– 8 ounces of dried chipped beef
– 2 tablespoons of butter
– 1½ cups of whole milk
– 2 tablespoons of flour
– Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
– Salt, to taste
– Bread slices, toasted
Optional: For some heat, add a pinch of cayenne pepper!
Instructions:
1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over low heat. Whisk in flour until smooth.
2. Gradually pour in the milk, stirring constantly to prevent any lumps from forming. Continue cooking and stirring until the mixture thickens and comes to a gentle simmer. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
3. Add in beef and salt/pepper. Remember, the beef is naturally salty, so use salt sparingly.
4. While the sauce is simmering, toast the bread slices to your desired level of crispiness.
5. Cook beef mixture until warm.
To serve, place a slice of toasted bread on a plate and generously spoon the creamed chipped beef over it.
